Este disco intenta mostrar el pensamiento musical personal de Julio Andrade, guitarrista quiteño quien a lo largo de su trayectoria ha logrado construir un estilo propio y muy reconocible, influenciado por décadas de contacto con la más profunda tradición oral de nuestra querida música ecuatoriana. Es en verdad una larga travesía al conocer maestros, al atesorar saberes, articulando lenguajes que con el paso de los años alcanzan la suficiente coherencia que quizás, y sin pretensiones, nos muestran el inicio de un nuevo momento para el desarrollo de la guitarra popular ecuatoriana.
“Travesía” es un disco producto de la más absoluta libertad en todos los niveles. El repertorio nos muestra un amplio panorama de la música popular ecuatoriana de raíz nacional, repertorio que en su mayoría no ha sido considerado ni incorporado por los guitarristas formales.

This album shows the musical personal thinking of Ecuadorian guitarist Julio Andrade, who managed along the years to build a unique style, influenced by decades of contact with the deepest oral tradition of Ecuadorian music: A journey full of meetings with the masters, discovering treasures of knowledge and learning musical languages.
Being the first solo guitar album recorded upon this repertoire for over 30 years, it is really a new start for the Ecuadorian history of traditional guitar, especially considering that most of this songs were never recorded or even considered by academic guitarists.

Las yemas de estos dedos están haciendo un viaje. Van con sus pisadas tomando instantáneas, imágenes que empacan y proyectan conforme caminan. Los dedos y sus pequeños martillos articulados tallan un mapa, han tomado una ruta y marcan en ella estaciones coloridas: los géneros musicales ecuatorianos y un instrumento tan querido por nosotros. En esta Travesía Julio va anudando una alfombra, va de una década a otra, de un horizonte sepia a un refulgente danzante andino, de una ceremonia a una dolorosa memoria de amor. Hay una técnica en este andar solitario de la guitarra, una escuela, un conocimiento, una confesión. Un modo de vivir los bordones, los ritmos, los acentos. La destreza de contener -con la vitela- incisivos y melancólicos latidos y rasgados: el gusto de este quiteño y sus ancestros nacionales. Entre ellos Carlos Bonilla, Ulpiano Benítez, Ángel Leonidas Araujo.
El sendero es puro mas no austero, el chaquiñán que vislumbramos, hondo. Allá en lo profundo el bajo que va a pie toca el esternón. En la fiesta pequeña alegra como un tambor, donde, a pesar de la soledad, hay danza y festejo. Ahí están el yumbo, el pasillo, el sanjuanito y el recuerdo de voces que los han cimbrado en nuestra alma. Julio abraza a estos intemporales compositores, y pasa un pañuelo sobre la madera que hicieron brillar: en estas estaciones deja sus huellas sutiles. Aquí estamos, celebrando en la memoria y en el paisaje del recuerdo que tendremos.
